Fabian Willmann (*1992 in Freiburg) works at the intersection of jazz, experimental, popular, and minimal music. As a saxophonist and composer, he explores new musical expressions, interdisciplinary collaboration, and is currently developing a manifesto on the “New Simplicity.”

 

Fabian Willmann inherited his grandfather’s saxophone at the age of ten and soon knew he wanted to dedicate his life to music. He studied jazz saxophone at the Basel University of Music and, as a scholarship recipient of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), also studied at New York University. At the same time as his saxophone studies, he studied musicology at the Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg as a scholarship holder of the German National Academic Foundation.

 

Numerous concerts and tours have taken him beyond Europe and the USA to Japan, China, South Korea, Nepal, Uganda, and South Africa. In April 2022, Willmann released his debut album Balance with his trio featuring Jeff Ballard and Arne Huber.
