Roche 'n' Jazz | Jah Baba

in cooperation with the bird's eye jazz club & Culturescapes Sahara
Costs: museum admission

One day, his grandmother called him and said that he had to continue her fight, that he had to show people that African culture was the foundation of everything. Since then, Oladikpo Abiala has been on the road as Jah Baba, combining traditional African music with modern instruments and West African percussion with jazz, Afrobeat and gospel, he tells in The Drummers and Their Drumbeats. Celebrated on the contemporary scene as one of the undisputed masters of Batà and Gangan percussion - both sacred instruments that accompany the Egungun ceremonies - his musical compositions embody the vitality and richness of his cultural heritage. For the Beninese singer, multi-instrumentalist, producer, composer and bandleader, music is a means of expression for social and cultural activism. His lyrics question justice and worry about nature or the transmission of values from today to tomorrow.
