Suzanne Lacy (*1945)  is a pioneer of feminist and activist performance art. Since the early 1970s, she has been focussing attention on rape, giving a public voice to individuals who identify as women, and naming the patriarchal roots of this violence.

Born in Spain, Chus Martínez has a background in philosophy and art history. She is a writer and curator, Head of the Institute of Art Gender Nature, Basel Academy of Art and Design FHNW, and associate curator of TBA21 in Madrid/Venice. She is the Artistic Director of the 36th Ljubljana Biennale of Graphic Arts (on view until 12 October 2025) and a board member of CIMAM (International Committee for Museums). Suzanne Lacy: By Your Own Hand

In her video installation «De tu puño y letra (By Your Own Hand)» (2014–2015/2019), Suzanne Lacy puts us in the middle of a bull fighting arena and confronts us with harrowing accounts of women’s experiences of violence. The Los Angeles-based artist has been a pioneer of social practice, feminism and performance art since the 1970s.
