Tomorrow Never brings together photographs taken in Russia between 2018 and 2023 in the regions of the Urals, Siberia, Yakutia and the Russian Far East.
«Initially invited to take up an artist residency in Yekaterinburg, I was quickly drawn to the harshness of the winters, the vastness of the distances, but also to the warmth of the people I met. How do young people in the provinces live? What are they like? How does one grow up under an authoritarian regime? What can still be created in Russia today?
On several occasions, I travelled the country, taking an interest in local art scenes. At the same time, Russia was closing in on itself: first with the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, and then with the consequences of the war of invasion in Ukraine. Through dynamic networks, I shared my work, collaborated with other artists, and incorporated into my practice those who identified with it. I saw a frozen country. An isolated and determined generation. A counterculture gasping for air, yet resisting. » Augustin Rebetez
