Architectural tour | Museum Tinguely

Architectural tour of Museum Tinguely as part of Architecture Week Basel.

Free admission, booking required, in German

Located on the banks of the Rhine in Basel next to the Roche site, Museum Tinguely was designed by Swiss architect Mario Botta and opened in October 1996. In total, the museum accommodates exhibition spaces of approximately 3,000 m2. Architecturally unique are the lifting wall panels, through which the large, 11-meter-high hall can be subdivided into five large spaces or opened up entirely. Emblematic of the building is the «barca», an architectural element set off from the southern façade, which acts as a connection between the ground floor and the gallery on the second floor and offers a unique view of the Rhine. Equally characteristic are the fish-belly trusses that strikingly structure the roof construction and the whole building towards the west.
