Pianist Nik Bärtsch’s extraordinary Ronin trio performs highly differentiated minimalist music.
The versatile musicians merge various elements of funk, jazz and modern classical music and the sounds of Japanese ritual music into their own fascinating style, which is strongly hypnotic due to its groovy and rhythmically nuanced character.
The trio’s sound is full of twists and bold combinations of phrases and motifs, which are recombined and layered in new, consistently captivating ways. It is a suspenseful sound construct that is sometimes funky, sometimes relaxed and at times formally strict – but always making new connections and capturing the audience’s imagination.
