The secret of this trio lies in the rare gift of having developed its very own sound, which is characterised by the delicate sound paintings of its namesake Emil Brandqvist on drums and the once sensitively plodding, sometimes rapidly rolling neo-classicisms of the Finnish pianist Tuomas A. Turunen. The stoical driving force of Max Thornberg's double bass gives the trio an unmistakable body. Ususally Emil Brandqvist is responsible for most of the compositions, but it has become a tradition that Tuomas A. Turunen, who lives in southern France, also contributes compositions. Emil Brandqvist is a drummer, composer, and bandleader. He lives in Gothenburg/Sweden and studied there at the Academy of Music and Drama. He is involved in many different music projects both as a drummer and composer. He often takes inspiration for his compositions from Swedish nature. Emil also composes music for films (fiction and documentary). For the album Seascapes, he was nominated for the ECHO Jazz 2016 as "Instrumentalist of the Year, international Drums/Percussion".
