Since the 1970s, Heiri Känzig has been considered one of Switzerland's leading jazz bassists and a musical globetrotter. He was part of the original line-up of the Vienna Art Orchestra and was the first non-Frenchman to be appointed to the French Orchestre National de Jazz. His latest work is a musical journey through different continents and styles. Here, the influences Känzig has absorbed through his numerous encounters with musical cultures around the world come together. The shimmering runs of the oud player Amine M'raihi meet the lyrical refinement of the pianist Marc Méan, the floating melismas of the singer Veronika Stalder stand next to the enchanting radiance of the trumpeter Matthieu Michel. Always present as an unmistakable link: the melodically pulsating double bass of Heiri Känzig and the drive of the drummer Lionel Friedli. It's not about a new record in complexity or innovation. More than anything else, we hear in this sextet the desire to play music that aims at the heart of things.
