In Cheb, Filipe Lourenço creates a lively encounter between traditional Maghreb music and contemporary sounds from pop, rock, funk and electro. Supported by the powerful presence of dancers Kerem Gelebek and Youness Aboulakoul and the sound design of François Caffenne and Nuri, the performance explores the connection between past and present and questions how our relationship to remembrance culture and community has changed.

Lourenço’s interest in how cultural identity is expressed through sound and physical forms of storytelling connects his work with the practices of Angelica Mesiti, with whom he has collaborated on several occasions.

On the same day at 3 pm, Angelica Mesiti and curator Tabea Panizzi will lead a guided tour of the exhibition at the Museum Tinguely, focusing on dance as a central theme in Mesiti’s work. A ticket for Cheb grants free admission to the tour.

Dans ses travaux, Angelica Mesiti explore des formes de communication alternatives allant de traditions orales à des langages musicaux performatifs. Ses installations vidéo évoquent la poésie du quotidien et montrent comment l’échange sur le son et la gestuelle peut engendrer des communautés. «The Rites of When» (2024) repense des rituels ancestraux liés aux saisons. Cette œuvre sensorielle sonde les possibles de l’être ensemble à une époque marquée par l’insécurité écologique et les mutations sociales.
